What’s Yo Face?!

EVENTS

The Swatch Club is all about people, and turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. Once a year Swatch has all their members waiting in eager anticipation for a mail to arrive in their inbox. Based on a first come, first serve basis, a limited 60 members have the chance to accept an invitation to a once in a lifetime event. We were privileged to be a part of this phenomenon.

Concept

Create an impactful experience where Swatch Club members ‘feel’ the Swatch brand. A space where they are transported into the very essence of the brand. Those attending shouldn’t be able to just see and touch it, but truly experience it. Members must walk away having never experienced something like it before. The emphasis would be on the Flabjacks world, their exclusivity and how much Swatch values their club members.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Flabjacks

Happy? Surprised? Excited? Inspired by the changing faces that appear throughout the day, this watch was designed by the artist and former Swatch Art Peace Hotel resident FLABJACKS (aka Ton Mak). We did our best to recapture his imagination, measure up to his Flabjacks legacy and create something incredible.

Setup

Foghound Studios played host to the event and our bunch of crazies. A fantastic venue that really went the extra mile, offering to paint their whole studio black in order for the event to have the impact we needed. Starting in the early hours of the morning, our event guys were more than up for the challenge. Installing scaffolding for all the lighting & hanging objects, placing décor, preparing food & drink, moving furniture around, stuffing marshmallows into bottles and sticking Flabjack vinyl on literally everything. Overall, setup went extremely well throughout the day, with minimal surprises. All our suppliers arrived promptly and set up timeously. We were show ready and excited for the evening to begin!

Turning the Ordinary into the Extraordinary

19:00 and time to party!

Plenty of lighting, décor and loads of white furniture reflected the many colours of the evening, creating an incredible luminous ambiance. Other elements including multi-coloured food, drink, glowsticks and giant ball pond in the centre of the venue really enhanced the overall experience.

We have to say that your inner child really comes out when faced with the option to jump into a pond of colourful balls - a big feature for the event that got a lot of laughter from us and the guests. We’re just surprised that we didn’t find any missing car keys or cell phones in the ball pond! (Bummer)

Guests were further enticed by the unique Swatch setups, which included displays featuring the newly released Swatch Big Bold and ‘What’s Yo Face?’

The Ice Cream Ninjas brought the most delicious source of positive energy, inviting guests to try their unique flavours, handfeeding them, throwing ice cream across the room and testing each guest’s fielding ability. There were more dropped catches than anything but that wasn’t an issue. They cleaned up the soiled ice cream, prepared a new batch and tried again. They really delivered a performance that earned them an A+ in our books. Everyone enjoyed a colourful performance by the Tandem Flame LED Dancers. Throughout the evening, the dancers really stood out in their luminous outfits and often had guests pausing their performances to take photos.

The Flabjacks Triathlon

Guests were encouraged to take part in the Flabjacks triathlon, which meant participating in a competition whereby they had to complete 3 of 4 ‘strenuous’ activities:

  1. Make your mark and sign it on the Flabjacks Colouring Wall
  2. Snap a selfie at the Photo Booth
  3. Take a swim in the Ball Pond
  4. Get your groove on in the Silent Disco

The only rules for the triathlon were that they had to capture a photo of themselves completing each activity with something Swatch in the photo. Then, to prove that they had completed each activity they had to post their photos to Instagram, tag @Swatch and use the hashtag #SwatchFlabjacks At the end of the evening, 3 winners were announced and each walked away with a brand new Swatch.

Excitement really erupted when everyone was invited to the dancefloor to collect a pair of headsets and experience the silent disco! Three music channels, featuring live music from DJ Loudom and Silent Events, could be selected. Whether you were listening to the blue, green or red channel, everyone showed their best moves and gave it their all on the dancefloor.

Rounding up

We had a lot of positive feedback during and after the event. One comment which really resonated, “I thought parties like this only happen in movies”, made us feel like we manage to achieve what we set out to do. We’d like to thank all our suppliers for making our lives that much easier, and to Swatch for contracting us to assist with the event.
